Dr. Shrideh Al-Omari
Head of the department
As the Head of the Department of
Applied sciences , I have the unique
opportunity to work with a
remarkable collection of colleagues
inside and outside
the Faculty of Engineering
Technology who united by their passion
for mathematical research to create
an environment where enthusiasm and
creativity can flourish.
About the Department:
The Department of Applied Sciences
(DAS) has been recently established
by separating the pure-science
discipline from the humanities
discipline. Both together, they
previously formed the Department of
Basic Sciences (DPS). The DAS arises
now as an independent department of
the Faculty of Engineering
Technology (FET) of BAU, and
includes the mathematics, physics,
and chemistry disciplines. It
constitutes one of the most
important departments at FET since
it provides student with the basic
courses they need in order to
advance later on towards engineering
courses.
The department looks forward to
advance in its research capabilities
as well as in instructing advanced
courses in physics than just the
freshman courses. Research is being
currently conducted by various
members of DAS, and it is possible
that the research will be conducted
at a higher rate in the future.
Applied Physics Section at FET
The
Physics Section (APS) of the
Department of Applied Science (DAS)
at the Faculty of Engineering
Technology (FET) is home to 15 staff
members, 8 of which are PhD, and the
rest M.Sc. holders, and in various
specializations. Located in the
outskirts of the capital Amman,
almost in the middle between Amman
and a largely populated city Zarqa,
it provides a convenient location,
and easy access, for students coming
from both cities. The APS receives
annually about 600-1000 freshman
(i.e., First Year) students from all
over the country, as well as foreign
nationals. The number of students,
however, is not fixed and is growing
from year to year. Thus FET is
growing, flourishing, and has become
one of the leading universities in
Jordan.
Being inside a faculty
mainly for engineering, the PS
focuses on, and mainly teaches
service courses which are basic
requirements for freshman
engineering students. These service
courses tend to help them in their
future sophomore up to senior
courses.
Applied
Mathematics Section at FET
Welcome to the
Applied Mathematics Section at FET :
Mathematics occupies a core
intellectual position at Faculty of
Engineering Technology, an
institution that is well known for
its leadership in Science and
Engineering. We have a great
tradition to uphold professors who
were one-time members of our
Department. All faculty
undergraduates take our classes, and
we enjoy a special responsibility to
teach these extraordinary students
to appreciate the subject the way we
do. As we look forward to the coming
period, significant challenges and
opportunities lie ahead .
Applied Chemistry Section (ACS) at
FET
Chemistry is more than the periodic
table! It’s an exciting field at the
heart of the physical sciences.
You’ll learn how to think, analyze
and investigate scientific problems
in the lab.
Chemistry is a diverse subject,
central to the Sciences.
Consequently when addressing many of
the challenges facing our world
today, from climate change to
nanotechnology, you will find
chemists at the centre of the
research and application, providing
a link to Biology and application to
Physics and Engineering. Chemistry
is also core to many more applied
areas of Science, such as Materials
Science, Pharmacy, Earth Science and
Chemical Engineering. This diversity
makes chemistry an exciting and
dynamic subject and in demand to
industry, education and many areas
outside science.
Goals of ACS
The goal of ACS is to provide
engineering students with the
required chemical knowledge needed
for their study through teaching
freshman engineering General
Chemistry course and its laboratory.
In addition, ACS is concerned with
teaching Chemical Engineering
students general chemistry courses
(Chem. I and II and its labs),
Organic Chemistry and its lab,
Analytical Chemistry and
Instrumental Analysis and its Lab
and Physical Chemistry and its Lab
in addition to Environment and
Society.
